ABUJA – THE Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN) has openly endorsed President Goodluck Jonathan for the forthcoming presidential election, reports CALEB AYANSINA.
The chairman of YOWICAN in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Pastor Godwin Abah said they took the decision because of the need for President Jonathan to continue his transformation agenda.
Abah, who stated this in an interview with newsmen at a sensitisation programme on the need for peaceful election, organised by the group, in Abuja, said it was imperative for politicians and political parties to run a campaign based on issues and not on personalities.
He said name calling during electioneering campaigns was a potential breeding ground for violence, calling for an issue- based campaigns.
“If you watch out few weeks ago, the level and manner of campaign seems to be instigating violence,” adding that as long as politicians and political parties kept to the peace accord signed in Abuja, “there will be no violence.” The YOWICAN chairman insisted that the group was apolitical, but owes its members a duty to educate them on the need to vote wisely and ensure peaceful polls.
