Lagos—The Civil Liberties Organisation, CLO has warned politicians, political parties and their supporters against statements and actions capable of truncating the nation’s democracy.

Speaking yesterday at a news conference, in Lagos, CLO stated that it was currently taking stock of persons making inflammatory statements as the countdown to the February polls begins, noting that it would not hesitate to drag such persons to the International Criminal Court, ICC.

President of the CLO, Igho Akeregha and the Executive Director, Ibuchukwu Ezike, who spoke on the occasion said the warning became imperative against the backdrop of increasing incidents of political violence across the country in the build-up to the polls.

Akeregha said: “The CLO interprets current developments in the country as deliberate actions by politicians to undermine the huge gains Nigeria has made since 1999 in our collective march to democratic stability. Majority of Nigerians are now very worried about their safety and enjoyment of their democratic freedoms with escalating incidents of political violence and general insecurity.”
