LOKOJA—The Kogi State government said it will commence payment of October and November salaries to primary school teachers in the state tomorrow.
The state governor, Capt. Idris Wada who gave the hint after meeting with the state executive members of the Nigerian Union of Teachers, NUT, in the state said that the machinery had also been set in motion for the payment of all outstanding entitlements of primary school teachers in the state.
Wada who spoke through his deputy, Mr. Yomi Awoniyi said the government would soon regularise the discrepancies noticed in the payroll of teachers, promising that salaries would be paid regularly from next year.
“The problem associated with payment of the teachers’ salaries, dates back to 2008 but we (government) have taken bold measures to put things right. I am happy that the efforts are now yielding fruits for a comprehensive data for primary school teachers in the state, to correct the delays in salary payment,” he said.
The governor, however, stressed that government would soon embark on verification of certificates of all primary school teachers in the state, as a means to restoring sanity in the teaching profession.
“Government is committed to restoring better standards in the education sector by enhancing the quality of teachers in the state,” he added.
