A LEADING Senatorial Aspirant in Anambra Central on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Obiora Okonkwo has petitioned the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu over the appointment of Alaye Tremie (Jnr) as the chairman of the Anambra State Electoral Panel for the National Assembly primaries slated for today and tomorrow.

While the PDP House of Representatives primaries will hold today, that of the senate will be held tomorrow across the country.

Dr Okonkwo, who noted that almost all the senatorial aspirants in the state are yet to see the official list of delegates for Anambra Central Senatorial district, urged the PDP chairman to replace Tremie with a fair-minded and unbiased person for three reasons: Tremie served as a member and secretary of the PDP national Delegate Congress in Ebonyi State and the said congress was marred by irregularities and remains controversial till date; he is a close associate and school mate of one of the aspirants in Anambra Central, who has started celebrating even before the primaries; and the Anambra PDP “is in a very fragile state because we are still weathering the huge crisis created by the attempt to appoint a Caretaker Committee in Anambra.”

Urging the party hierarchy to do the needful and replace Tremie, Dr Okonkwo feared that if this matter is not adequately addressed, the primary election will further polarize the state”, adding “please let us avoid this looming crisis that may lead to a breakdown of law and order.”
