MAIDUGURI — National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, yesterday raised alarm over increasing number of internally displaced persons, IDPs, at established camps in the North-East region of the country as insurgents continue to invade communities.

The agency said weekend’s insurgents attack on Madagali, Adamawa State, a town hosting many fleeing victims of insurgency from Gwoza town in Borno had led to another challenge for it.
The information officer of the agency in the North-East, Mallam AbdulKadir Ibrahim, who few days ago disclosed that it had registered about 12,000 IDPs in neighbouring towns to Gwoza as a result of the attack on the town, lamented that NEMA was faced with another challenge of establishing other IDPs camps as a result of the attack on Madagali.

Ibrahim, who said the North-East zonal office of NEMA had continued to assist victims of insurgents attacks from Gwoza local government presently taking refuge in different IDPs camps in Adamawa State, said all that was needed to cater for the growing challenge would be deployed for the use of the victims.
According to him, presently a team led by the North-East zonal coordinator of the agency, Alhaji Muhammed Kanar, had taken charge of the humanitarian situation in the affected areas.

Ibrahim said the team had established a mobile unit having relocated from the Maiduguri zonal office over five days ago, had been on hands, delivering relief materials to the fleeing residents of Gwoza town at various IDPs camps both in Borno and Adamawa states.
