$1bn request to fight B’Haram: Delta guber aspirant faults APC’s stand

By Onozure Dania

LAGOS— A governorship aspirant in Delta State, Mr Ben Williams, has faulted the All Progressives Congress, APC, for making noise over plans by the Federal Government to borrow $1billion to fight the Boko Haram insurgency in the country.

Williams in a statement, yesterday, while reacting to APC’s allegation of corruption and lack of accountability behind government‘s request for $1bn loan, said: “It is very unfortunate that at this critical time in our nationhood, some individuals have decided to constitute themselves into threat to our corporate existence with their utterances.

“If not, why would they and the political party they represent in the name of opposition deem it fit to issue such an allegation?  It is therefore, in a bid to address some of the issues raised that exposed them for what they truly are- agents of mischief.

“Ever since 2002 when Boko Haram was founded by Mohammed Yusuf, the organisation has since evolved to become a globally acclaimed terrorist organisation. Over 13,000 people have been killed since the insurgency started in 2009. In fact, the Human Rights Watch has documented about 2500 deaths in 2014.

“The casualty figure of the injured is equally worrisome. Not to talk of the colossal loss of property recorded. The abduction of the over 250 secondary school girls from Chibok, Borno State generated global media frenzy.
“The #bringbackourgirls campaigners have again called on the Federal Government to intensify efforts at rescuing the over 200 girls abducted by the Boko Haram sect.

“How much is your life worth? How much is the life of the Chibok girls worth? How much is the life of the daughter of a man who has $10 billion? Would he consider investing $10 billion too much?
“We have been trying since 2009 to end the ravaging menace.  Only a fool would continue to do things the same way and expect different results.”
