Maiduguri — The 7 Division, Nigerian Army, Maiduguri the Borno State capital has lifted the ban on vehicular movement earlier imposed on Maiduguri and its environs, following intelligence report that the Boko Haram sect planned to disrupt the Eid el Fitr celebrations with multiple bomb explosions.

The lifting of the ban, according to a statement sby the spokesman of the Division, Colonel Muhammed Dole takes effect from today.

Dole, in the statement said: “On behalf of the acting General Officer Commanding, Brigadier General Ibrahim Mohammed, I congratulate the good people of Borno State on successful completion of the Ramadan fast and the hitch‑free Sallah celebrations in Maiduguri in particular and other parts of the state.

“The Division also wishes to register its profound gratitude and appreciation for the support, cooperation and understanding with due regards to proactive security measures put in place by the Divisional Headquarters to forestal the evil plan of the terrorists to carry out bombings in Maiduguri metropolis during the Sallah celebrations.”

“The GOC equally salutes the resilience and collaborative efforts of the youth vigilante group for their active participation in the fight against insurgents in the state.

“He is also urging the leadership of youth vigilante group to ensure the firm control and discipline of their colleagues while performing their duties in collaboration with the security agencies.

“He, however, requested the general public to remain vigilant and alert at their surroundings and to report any suspicious objects, persons and movements to the security agencies for further action.”
