Yobe State government is set to meet its target of building 2000 houses before the end of the first quarter of 2010.
State Commissioner for Housing, Alhaji Sidi Karasuwa who disclosed this said  that over 1300 houses including two and three bedroom apartments are nearing completion in all the 17 local government areas of the state and assured that the remaining 700 would be delivered early in the year, adding that the completion of the housing units will solve accommodation problem in the state capital and other major cities.

“The problem of residential accommodation will be history in the state capital.This administration is determined to achieving the Millennium Development Goals of providing affordable and decent accommodation to the citizenry. We have also subsidized all houses sold to civil servants from 2006 to date by 50 per cent,” he said

Karasuwa noted that additional infrastructures including access roads, electricity and water among others are being provided in the estates, maintaining that the peculiarities of the climatic condition of the state were considered in order to ensure weather friendly houses.
“If you check the the 300 houses along Maiduguri road and those at the Zanna Zakariyya estate, you will notice the difference in terms of materials and quality,” he said.
