EFCC tasks public officers on budget tracking, monitoring

Mr Ibrahim Lamorde, Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday solicited the cooperation of public officers on budget tracking and monitoring to curb corruption.

This is contained in a statement by Mr Wilson Uwujaren, spokesman of the commission in Abuja.

The statement stated that Lamode made this known at the opening ceremony of a workshop on Budget Tracking and Monitoring.

It stated that the workshop, organised by the EFCC in conjunction with the United Nations Development Programme, (UNDP) in Abakiliki, was aimed at enhancing public participation in budget implementation.

Lamode, represented by Mr Osita Nwajah, EFCC Deputy Director of Public Affairs, said the workshop was in line with the commission’s mandate to prevent corruption.

“The fight against corruption in public life would acquire greater attraction if citizens show more interest in monitoring budget implementation.

“The workshop is aimed at educating people on budget tracking and monitoring in the fight against economic and financial crimes,” he said.

In her remark, Mrs Aisha Larai-Musa, EFCC Head of Enlightenment and Reorientation Unit, pledged the commission’s commitment to enhancing the capacity of public officers in budget tracking.(NAN)
