THE South African –based Super Sports television is boosting football development in Anambra State with the donation of 1000 balls to the state as an honour to Governor Willie Obiano for appointing one of Nigeria’s most successful sports administrators, Chief Tony Nnacheta as the state commissioner for youths and sports.

Elated Nnacheta, who disclosed this to newsmen in Awka said Super Sports has also agreed to train Anambra youths aged eight – 13 years at the Rogeny Stadium, Oba as part of the programme to catch young talented footballers.

Expressing gratitude to the South African outfit for the gesture, Nnacheta directed the 21 local government areas in the state to nominate 20 pupils each made up of 10 from primary schools and 10 from secondary schools for the training that would commence immediately.

The commissioner also said that as part of sports development in the state, Governor Obiano has directed that all sports men and women of Anambra State origin working for other states would be brought back, no matter what it would cost the state government.

Nnacheta said: “Many athletes from this state are working in other states and we are determined to bring them back. If they are on contracts, we will work it out with the states involved so that they can relocate to Anambra.

“We know that some of them left out of frustration, but this administration is prepared to correct whatever problems that existed in the past. Similarly, our coaches employed in other states, as well as those that had retired, will be encouraged to come back home.”
