Alleged cow thief docked

Gusau—A Zamfara State Chief Magistrate’s Court, yesterday, remanded a 30-year-old rustler, Shehu Idris of Makaurata village in Sabuwa Local Government Area, Katsina State, in prison custody for alleged conspiracy, armed robbery and possession of firearms.

The prosecutor, Inspector Yakubu Abuga, told the court that on June 8, one Almajiri Buhari of Dankatahu village in Tsafe Local Government Area, reported the case at the Tsafe Divisional Police Station.

Abuga said the accused conspired with one Musa and eight others, now at large, and armed themselves with guns, cutlasses and sticks and invaded the complainant’s residence.

He said the accused and his gang robbed him of 25 cows, five sheep, a boxer motorcycle and an unspecified amount of money.

The prosecutor said that when the accused was arrested, the stolen items were recovered from him, but other members of the gang escaped arrest.

He said the offence contravened the provisions of Sections 6(1) and (3) of the Robbery and Fire Arms Act, but the accused pleaded not guilty.

The Chief Magistrate, Abdulnasir Umar, remanded the accused in prison custody, and adjourned the case till October.
