LOKOJA— Kogi State Po-lice Command has nabbed one Egah John, 27, for allegedly defrauding unsuspecting members of the public while posing as an official of Department of State Services, DSS.
Acting state Commissioner of Police, Augustine Ebvakhabokun, who paraded the suspect at the Command Headquarters in Lokoja, yesterday, along with some suspected armed robbers, said that Egah had extorted money from many of his victims in Ankpa Local Government Area of the state.
Ebvakhabokun further said that the suspect was arrested while trying to defraud one Uche John, while in possession of two fake identity cards. One bearing the logo of the Nigeria Police Force and the other, DSS.
“Investigation revealed that Egah had in the past claimed to be a policeman and DSS personnel at different times and had also collected N25,000 each from one Jimoh Yusuf and Mukailu Idris, both from Ankpa, for the purpose of being recruitment into DSS.”
The police boss further said that the suspect also claimed to be a teacher in a private school in Abocho, Dekina Local Government Area of the state.
The suspect confessed that he collected N50,000 from the duo for recruitment into DSS, but blamed his action on the devil.
Also paraded along with him were four other suspected armed robbers, including Ibrahim Aliyu, Yakubu Alfa, Nicolas Abutu and Lucky Abdullahi, who were arrested at different locations in the state.
Items recovered from the suspects included two AK-47 rifles, 16 live ammunition, police uniform with inscription Mile John, Mobile Police uniform, three cutlasses, six SIM cards, one police belt and masks.
Others are charms, one red Kenos motorcycle, three Nokia telephone sets, drivers licence, a black toy gun, a small kitchen knife and a wrap of dried weed, suspected to be India hemp.
