Footballers, estate agent docked over alleged kidnap,robbery

Two brothers and one other, were Friday arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate court sitting in Ikeja, over alleged kidnap and robbery. The suspects are Peter Falola 27, Mumini Kudoro 29 and Shaib Kudoro 34.

The defendants, whose occupations are football and Estate Agents respectively, were docked before Magistrate Mrs Abimbola Oshodi-Makanju.

The defendants are facing a three count charge bordering on conspiracy, kidnap and robbery, preferred against them by the police. The police prosecutor, Inspector Edet Okoi, told the court that the defendants and others committed the alleged crime on October 16, 2012, at about 2pm. He said that the incident took place at Oko- Afo Secondary School in Badagry area of Lagos.

Okoi, also alleged that the defendants unlawfully kidnapped and imprisoned one Adeniyi Adelakun against his will.The prosecutor, claimed that the defendants robbed their victim of a cash sum of  $3,220 US dollars, which is equivalent to N487,000, one Black Berry phone worth N60,000, one Nokia C3, valued N10,000 and a Jewellery valued N8,500, all belonging to Adelakun.

According to the prosecutor, the offence committed is punishable under section 297, 409, 269 and 295 of the criminal laws of Lagos state of Nigeria 2011.

The counsel to the defendants, Bright Idahosa, told the court that the complainant in the matter, was actually the one that collected the said sum, from the defendants and promised to take them to court as their coach, since they are footballers. However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges against them. Magistrate Oshodi- Makanju, granted them bail, in the sum of N 500,000, with two responsible sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case to October 28, 2013, for mention.
