A whooping 21 million people comprising of Lagos residents and visitors are expected at this year’s edition of the Black Heritage Festival in Lagos

Nobel Prize Winner, Prof. Wole Soyinka and Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism and Inter-governmental Relations, Mr. Disun Holloway gave the details while unfolding plans for the hosting of the event .

The week-long festival will commence on Saturday, 23rd March and climax on Easter Monday, 1st of April, 2013.

The Civic Centre on Ozumba Mbadiwe Street, Victoria Island and Oyinkan Abayomi Street will be the venues for the Water Regatta event.

Speaking at the Freedom Park, Lagos, Soyinka, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the Festival, said all logistics had been put in place for a hitch free event.

Disclosing that the hosting of the event was part of government’s determination to preserve the cultural heritage of Lagos residents, Soyinka added that people from all parts of the world are expected in Lagos to experience the thrills and excitement of the festival.

Holloway on his part said the Festival would be of immense economic benefit to residents, stressing that it would also provide a source of relaxation for all.

According to him, Lagos state will host over 21 million people at the event, adding that it will give Lagosians the opportunity to unwind and have fun in a secured environment.

Events marking the Water Regatta will include: engine power boat racing, swimming, search and rescue demonstration and the traditional boat regatta tagged “The Black in the Mediterranean Blue and the African Colours of Brazil”.

Other events to be staged include drama, dance, exhibitions, symposium, music and street carnival.
