Abakaliki – The Ebonyi Judiciary generated N19.7million during the 2011/ 12 legal year, Justice Alloy Nwankwo, the Chief Judge of the State, said in Abakaliki on Friday.
Nwankwo made the fact known at the opening ceremony of the 2012/ 13 legal year.
He said although revenue collection was an ancillary function of the judiciary, it was noteworthy to mention that the judiciary recorded increased revenue through fines and fees.
“The total revenue generated by the High Court within the period was N15.5 million, Customary Court of Appeal, N357, 000, Customary Court, N1.5 million, and Magistrates’ Court, N2.3 million,” he said.
The judge said the State High Court disposed of 9,236 cases, while the Customary Court of Appeal disposed of 2,185 cases.
He also said that the Magistrates’ Court disposed of 7, 925 cases and the Customary Court disposed of 5,461 cases during the year.
“Cases currently pending before the High Court are 13, 342, Customary Court of Appeal, 4,932, Magistrates’ Court, 12, 231, and Customary Court, 10, 073,” Nwankwo said.
He said that three new High Court judges were appointed in the state during the period and named them as Justice Christopher Eze, Justice Chinyere Ken-Eze and Justice Patrick Chima.
