The Managing Director of Huawei Device, Mr. Tony Liangwei, manufacturers of Huawei phones has predicted a 35 percent increase in smartphone market in Nigeria by 2015, which he says means that 30 million smartphones will be sold in the country.
Liangwei made this disclosure at a workshop to intimate distributors in Nigeria with the company’s growth agenda for 2012, where he said the company intends to encourage dealers in mobile devices to form partnerships with Huawei which, he noted will be of benefit to both parties.
The three major product lines highlighted at the workshop were Huawei’s Handsets, (rated among top 5 smart phones) the Mobile Broadband, (rated number 1 globally) and the Home Devices( rated most ideal partner)
He however stated that there is a shift in the focus of Nigerian consumers from phones with basic functionality to smartphones, and that a huge increase in sales of smartphones is expected in Nigeria, whilst stating that statistics have show that there will be a 35 percent increase before 2015, which means 30 million smart phones will be sold in Nigeria that year.
According to him, “What this means is that in the years to come the opportunities in the smartphone market in Nigeria for device dealers will be much greater than what we have today. Mr. Liangwei stated that in order for dealers to key into the opportunities, it is essential for them to partner with Huawei as the company is set to launch devices that will revolutionise the mobile and internet technology market at unbeatable prices.”
Consumers had noted that Huawei’s devices are among the affordable products in the market, considering its technology and quality.
