Mayor of Urhoboland and Head of the Association of Urhobo Mayoral Family Crown (AUMFC), His Worship, Eshanekpe Israel Agimor popularly known as Akpodoro—has extended his warm congratulations to Comrade Peculiar Oghenenyerowo Eyamu on her historic election as the President of the Student Union Government (SUG) at the Yakubu Gowon University (YGU), formerly known as the University of Abuja.

In a comprehensive statement issued from the Mayoral Palace in Abuja over the weekend, Mayor Akpodoro described Eyamu’s victory as a well-deserved triumph of merit, dedication, and visionary youth leadership noting that her exceptional track record in balancing academic brilliance with a deep-seated commitment to student welfare paved the natural path to her landslide victory at the polls.

According to the Mayoral press release, Eyamu has consistently distinguished herself in the affairs of both students and the university administration, bridging gaps and advocating for a harmonious academic environment.
“Comrade Eyamu’s emergence is not just a personal victory, but a resounding testament to the capacity of young women to lead with distinction in our nation’s premier tertiary institutions,” Mayor Akpodoro stated. “Her academics and impeccable student advocacy over the years have justly accounted for this overwhelming mandate given to her by her peers.”

The Urhobo mayor emphasized that winning the apex student leadership position at a prestigious national institution located in the nation’s capital underscores her cross-cultural appeal and strategic leadership capacity.

His Worship lauded the student body of Yakubu Gowon University for choosing intellectual competence and integrity over sentimental identity politics.

As Comrade Eyamu takes the reins of leadership at the university, the Mayor offered structural advice aimed at fostering a peaceful and productive academic tenure. He urged the new SUG administration to adopt a model of constructive engagement rather than adversarial confrontation when dealing with the university management led by the Vice-Chancellor.

The statement detailed key governance priorities for the incoming student executive:

Dialogue Over Disruption: Prioritizing peaceful negotiations and round-table discussions with management to resolve grievances, ensuring that the school calendar remains uninterrupted.

Student Welfare Centricity: Directing focus toward campus security, improvement of hostel facilities, and affordable transport systems for off-campus students.
Academic Support Systems: Partnering with alumni and private organizations to expand scholarship opportunities and peer-mentorship hubs for struggling students.

Akpodoro described the new SUG president as a pride of Urhoboland and Youth Mentorship,
speaking on behalf of the Urhobo nation, Mayor Akpodoro expressed profound pride that an indigenous daughter of Urhoboland has risen to such prominence in the Federal Capital Territory. He remarked that Eyamu’s success serves as a powerful lighthouse of inspiration for millions of youths across the Niger Delta region.

The head of the AUMFC further re-committed his palace to supporting educational initiatives and mentoring young leaders. He called on other regional leaders and elder statesmen to actively invest in youth development, highlighting that true national security and economic progress depend entirely on the quality of leaders emerging from Nigeria’s tertiary institutions.
