Lemuel Iyalla thrills UNILAG congregation at Fathers’ Day celebration

The Chapel of Christ Our Light, Protestant, University of Lagos, UNILAG, came alive last Sunday as it hosted a spirit-filled service to mark Fathers’ Day.

Gathering under the theme “Manifesting God’s Glory,” the congregation honoured fathers and father figures with uplifting worship, special thanksgiving, and inspiring messages. In a departure from tradition, the church held a unified service focused entirely on celebrating the men in the university community and it was one for the books.

A standout moment was the performance by the Men’s Choir, conducted by renowned soloist and music teacher Lemuel Iyalla. He took the worship session to a higher realm, delivering a solo performance “Calm me Lord” that had the congregation cheering till the final amen.

Clad in white with robes around their necks, the Men’s Fellowship rendered soul-lifting songs including “The storm”, “Alleluia! Chim Le,” “Olorun Daada I’Olorun Temi,” and other praise selections.

Alongside church leadership, the Men’s Fellowship also led special prayers and prophetic declarations, asking God to strengthen fathers for the journey ahead. It was a heartfelt celebration of their sacrifices, guidance, and spiritual leadership in their homes.

Reflecting on the experience, Iyalla described it as “awesome,” noting his role as guest soloist and conductor of the Men’s Fellowship.

“It was a rare opportunity conducting academics who are also into music,” he said.

Iyalla was introduced to classical music at age 8 when his father enrolled him in the church choir in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. He has since performed at several high-profile events both in Nigeria and beyond.
