The National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS) National led by Aare Oluwafemi Ajayi, has joined the global community in commemorating the United Nations International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking themed, “World Drug Problem: Persisting Issues, New Challenges, Innovative Responses.”

Speaking on the occasion, Aare Ajayi advised students and youths to covet having a bright future, which is a desirable thing, and that being high on hard drugs is not a sign of knowing and doing what is right.

He also used the occasion to commend the Commander, NDLEA Ogun State Command, and his team for organizing the Drug-Free Awareness Road Walk and sustaining the fight against substance abuse among young people.

NAOSS National was represented at the Drug-Free Awareness Road Walk by Aare Ajayi, Vice President, Comrade Olanose James, among other student leaders and they joined stakeholders and concerned citizens in advocating for a drug-free society and a healthier future for Nigerian youths.

Ajayi urged all Ogun State students across the nation to reject the dangerous narrative that drug abuse is a sign of exposure, class, confidence, or social relevance. “Drugs do not make anyone exceptional; they destroy dreams, weaken minds, damage health, and compromise the future.”

He added, “To students currently battling addiction, NAOSS National encourages you to speak up and seek help. Recovery begins with the courage to seek support, and no one should suffer in silence when help is available.

“The struggle for a greater Ogun State and a better Nigeria requires a generation of sound minds, strong values, and purposeful leadership. Let us choose discipline over addiction, purpose over destruction, and a brighter future for ourselves and generations to come.”
