The Federal Housing Authority (FHA), in partnership with Greenpasture Dynamic Land & Homes Limited, has commenced the construction of 216 housing units in the Wasa District of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as part of efforts to address Nigeria’s housing deficit.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the project, named FHA Green City Estate, was held on Wednesday along the Apo-Wasa Expressway. The development will occupy approximately five hectares of land allocated by the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA).

The estate will comprise 80 units of two-bedroom apartments, 56 units of three-bedroom apartments, 35 units of three-bedroom terrace duplexes, and 45 units of four-bedroom terrace duplexes.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of FHA, Hon. Oyetunde Ojo, was represented by the Executive Director (Estate Services), Arc. Nya-Etok Ezekiel described the project as another milestone in the authority’s efforts to provide affordable and sustainable housing.

According to him, the event represents more than the start of a construction project.

“We in Federal Housing Authority remain resolute in our resolve in pursuit of the mandate given to us by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) to not only facilitate access to decent housing and to bridge the housing deficit in our country, but to also revitalise and turn Federal Housing Authority to a viable and performing government agency,” he said.

Ojo noted that the authority had embraced partnerships with private developers to accelerate housing delivery.

“In pursuit of this noble objective and goal set for us, we have decided to embrace strategic partnerships with credible private sector developers such as Greenpasture Homes Limited.”

He explained that the estate was designed to meet contemporary housing needs while prioritising comfort, security and environmental sustainability.

“This project comprises 216 units of various house types carefully designed to meet contemporary housing needs while ensuring comfort, functionality, security, and environmental sustainability.”

He added that the completed estate would align with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“Upon completion, the estate will stand as a model residential community that reflects the vision of the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government under the leadership of His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, which prioritises housing as a critical component of national development.”

The FHA boss said the project would also create jobs and stimulate economic activities in the Wasa area.

“Beyond providing homes, this project has ripples of value chain effects. It will create employment opportunities for artisans, engineers, architects, surveyors, suppliers, and numerous other professionals throughout the construction period. It will stimulate economic activities within Wasa and its environs while contributing significantly to the development of the Federal Capital Territory.”

Highlighting FHA’s ongoing collaboration with Greenpasture Homes, he recalled a similar housing project launched in Ogun State earlier this year.

“Our partnership with Greenpasture Homes is waxing stronger. Only on the 13th of May 2026, we had a similar event at Ofada, Owode Local Government Area, Ogun State, where we laid the foundation of a 200-unit housing estate.”

He stressed that addressing Nigeria’s housing challenges requires collaboration between the public and private sectors.

“Housing provision cannot be left for the government alone. There is a need for both the public and private sectors to collaborate in tackling our nation’s housing challenges.”

Ojo also disclosed that FHA had expanded its operations across the country.

“In readiness to have our presence in all the regions of the country, we have visited 28 states, where land has been given to us. We have also commenced the process of construction in some of the states, having procured the contracts.”

According to him, groundbreaking ceremonies had already been conducted for FHA’s Renewed Hope Estates in Abia, Akwa Ibom and Kaduna states, while preparations for construction were being finalised.

He said the authority was pursuing digital transformation and institutional reforms aimed at improving service delivery.

“We initiated the digitalisation of the Authority’s property files, which are now secured in the Galaxy backbone. We are working for the full automation of all other aspects of the Authority’s operations.”

The FHA chief further highlighted projects completed during the current management’s tenure, including housing developments in Ibadan and Abuja, and revealed that work was ongoing on a 336-unit estate in Bwari, Abuja.

“We are currently working on the FHA Estate Bwari Abuja, which comprises 336 units, with the target date of commissioning before the end of the year.”

He assured prospective homeowners and investors of the authority’s commitment to quality and transparency.

“The Federal Housing Authority will continue to uphold the highest standards of quality assurance, transparency, and accountability throughout the execution of this project.”

Ojo concluded by describing the broader significance of the development.

“As we perform the symbolic foundation laying today, let us remember that we are not merely building structures of brick and mortar; we are building futures, creating opportunities, and fostering communities where families will live, grow, and prosper.”

Earlier, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Greenpasture Dynamic Land & Homes Ltd, Engr. Oluwale Oloyede said the project was designed to cater to a wide range of homebuyers and investors.

“This partnership represents what can be achieved when public institutions and responsible private sector organisations work together for the common good.”

He described the estate as a carefully planned residential community aimed at providing affordable and secure housing.

“Our vision is simple but ambitious: we want to create a modern, affordable, secure, and sustainable residential community that meets the housing aspirations of Nigerians while delivering exceptional value to investors.”

According to him, the project offers opportunities for various categories of buyers.

Oloyede highlighted the strategic importance of the Apo-Wasa corridor.

He added that the development would include roads, drainage, security infrastructure, power provisions, recreational spaces, parking facilities and controlled access.

The Greenpasture Homes chief said the project would contribute to economic growth through employment creation and infrastructure development.

“Like we all know, shelter is a basic necessity of man. Because of the inflation experienced in the country, the rural poor is the most affected. Housing is one thing, affordability is another thing. So, partners should ensure that the poorest of the poor are able to afford housing. We should be partners in progress because housing is key,” he said.
