Five quintuplets born in Akure, Ondo State, have been discharged from hospital after spending several months under intensive medical care, following intervention and support from the Chairman of Akure South Local Government, Dr. Gbenga Fasua.

The babies’ discharge marks the end of a challenging period that began with the tragic death of their mother during childbirth, leaving the newborns without maternal care and in need of specialized medical attention.

According to reports, Fasua visited the hospital shortly after receiving a distress call, where he commiserated with the bereaved family and assessed the condition of the quintuplets.

During the visit, he pledged immediate assistance, including food, medical supplies and other essential items, assuring the family that they would not be left to face the situation alone.

The council chairman subsequently fulfilled the promise by returning with relief materials for both the babies and the hospital, reaffirming his commitment to supporting their survival and wellbeing.

After months of treatment and monitoring, the quintuplets were discharged amid celebrations by medical personnel, government officials and family members who gathered to mark their recovery.

The hospital management commended Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa and Dr. Fasua for their prompt intervention and humanitarian support, noting that their efforts contributed significantly to saving the lives of the newborns.

The Permanent Secretary, representing the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ayodele Ajiji, praised the collaboration between government officials and healthcare workers, describing it as a demonstration of compassionate and responsive leadership.

Members of the family also expressed gratitude to Fasua for standing by them during their period of grief, describing his intervention as a source of hope following the loss of the children’s mother.

Speaking at the discharge ceremony, Fasua thanked God for preserving the lives of the quintuplets and commended Governor Aiyedatiwa, as well as the hospital management led by Chief Medical Director, Prof. Olagbuji, for their professionalism and dedication.

He again extended condolences to the family over the mother’s death and assured them of continued support toward the upbringing and welfare of the children.

The successful recovery and discharge of the quintuplets underscore the importance of timely intervention, coordinated healthcare services and community support in improving survival outcomes for vulnerable newborns.
