Special Adviser to the President, Dr Paul Tungwarara, has called for greater national unity and reconciliation, saying Zimbabwe’s development goals can only be achieved when citizens work together despite their differences.

Dr Tungwarara made the call following his recent engagement with social commentator Mr Rutendo Matinyarare, who has previously criticised the country’s leadership on various public platforms.

He said dialogue and inclusivity were important in building social cohesion and creating an environment that supports economic growth and national development.

“Nation-building requires all Zimbabweans to come together regardless of their backgrounds, beliefs or past differences. The focus should be on building the country and improving the lives of our people,” Dr Tungwarara said.

As part of the engagement, Dr Tungwarara provided financial support and a vehicle to Matinyarare, a move described as a gesture aimed at encouraging reconciliation and constructive engagement.

The development has generated discussions around the role of dialogue in addressing disagreements and promoting cooperation among citizens.

Political and social commentators said reconciliation remains an important part of nation-building because it encourages understanding and collaboration among different groups.

Dr Tungwarara maintained that differing views should not become a source of division but should provide opportunities for discussions that promote the national interest.

He said Zimbabwe’s future depends on the ability of citizens to unite around shared development objectives, adding that cooperation would be essential as the country continues efforts towards achieving its Vision 2030 goals.

Observers noted that the engagement highlighted the importance of tolerance and inclusiveness in strengthening national cohesion and supporting sustainable development.
