Ebonyi State politician and entrepreneur, Osborn Nweze Umahi, has thrown his weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, joining other supporters of the Federal Government in a public declaration of support for the President’s re-election bid.
Umahi made the declaration during a solidarity gathering held at the PA Ngele Oruta Township Stadium, where political stakeholders and supporters from across Ebonyi State converged to endorse President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
According to him, the event was led by the Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru, and reflected the state’s commitment to the President’s administration.
“The people of Ebonyi State, led by Governor Rt. Hon. Francis Nwifuru gathered in solidarity at PA Ngele Oruta Township Stadium to declare unwavering support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. Ebonyi chooses unity, progress and prosperity. We are for Renewed Hope and fully in support of the Ebonyi for PBAT movement,” Umahi stated.
The endorsement comes as the 28-year-old politician continues to gain prominence in Ebonyi’s political landscape following his emergence as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Ohaozara Local Government chairmanship position.
Widely regarded as one of the state’s emerging young political figures, Osborn Umahi is gradually carving out his own political identity, free from his father, David Umahi’s influence.
A trained civil engineer, entrepreneur, and philanthropist, Umahi has built a reputation in the private sector through his leadership of Tyneside Oil & Gas and his investments spanning energy, infrastructure, and hospitality.
Speaking about his decision to enter politics, he described it as a response to his community’s aspirations.
“My entry into politics wasn’t just a personal choice; it was an answer to a collective call from a community that wants to see modern, proactive governance,” he said.
Political observers believe his corporate background could offer a fresh approach to local governance, particularly in areas such as economic development, job creation and infrastructure management.
Analysts note that his emergence reflects a growing trend of young professionals seeking elective offices and bringing private-sector experience into public administration.
Umahi’s campaign has also attracted support from young people across Ohaozara, with his manifesto centred on youth inclusion, economic empowerment and infrastructure development.
Supporters point to his philanthropic activities, including educational assistance programmes and empowerment initiatives for vulnerable groups, as evidence of his commitment to community development, long before he sought public office.
Although politics runs deep within the Umahi family, associates maintain that his political ambition is driven by his personal achievements, business experience and grassroots engagement rather than family influence.
With local government elections drawing closer, attention is increasingly focused on Ohaozara, where Osborn Umahi’s candidacy is being viewed as a test case for a new generation of young, corporate-minded leaders seeking to redefine grassroots governance in Ebonyi State.
