…Hails Anioma senator’s legislative impact, constituency projects

ABUJA — A veteran journalist and member of the Federated Union of Community Newspaper Publishers of Nigeria, Comrade Austine Ihonor, has commended the performance of Senator Ned Nwoko (APC, Delta North), saying the lawmaker has sponsored 33 bills and 22 motions within three years in the 10th Senate.

Ihonor, in a statement titled “The Anioma Renaissance: How Senator Ned Nwoko rewrote the rules of engagement in the Nigerian Senate,” said Nwoko has distinguished himself through active legislative engagement, policy advocacy, and constituency development.

According to him, the senator, who chairs the Senate Committee on Reparations and Repatriation, has moved beyond symbolic representation to what he described as “active governance,” sponsoring key legislative proposals covering economic, social and constitutional reforms.

He noted that some of the bills attributed to Nwoko include proposals on a one-month rent structure aligned with salary cycles, malaria elimination reforms, diaspora voting, and a constitutional amendment seeking the creation of Anioma State.

The statement also highlighted Nwoko’s advocacy on issues such as gas flaring, labour welfare, national infrastructure development, and diaspora engagement, describing his interventions as consistent and policy-driven.

Ihonor further said the senator has used his office to attract development projects to Delta North, including efforts linked to power supply expansion through the Okpai Independent Power Plant Phase 2, installation of solar-powered streetlights, and support for water and agricultural infrastructure in local communities.

On human capital development, the statement credited Nwoko with sponsoring over 500 scholarships, funding JAMB registration for 1,500 students, and supporting skills acquisition programmes and cash transfer initiatives for constituents across the senatorial district.

It added that the senator’s approach combines legislative work with constituency empowerment, describing him as one of the standout performers in the current Senate.

Ihonor said Nwoko’s contributions have strengthened representation for Anioma people and expanded their visibility in national policymaking.

The statement concluded that effective leadership should be measured by tangible impact on citizens’ lives, not political rhetoric, adding that Nwoko has “redefined legislative representation” in his district.
