In a remarkable effort towards improving education and promoting sustainable development, Izili Nigeria partnered with JCI Ibadan Elite to provide solar lighting solutions to Oba Abass Aleshinloye Grammar School. The initiative was carried out as part of Izili Nigeria’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitment aimed at creating a more conducive learning environment for students.
The CSR initiative was launched at Oba Abass Aleshinloye Grammar School, Eleyele, Ibadan, on Wednesday, May 14, 2026.
As part of the outreach initiative, Izili Nigeria donated and installed multiple solar-powered solutions across the school premises, including a Biolite SolarHome 5000+ TV system, five SHS 620+ solar systems, and three solar lanterns.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Kolawole Oguntuase, CEO of Izili Nigeria, emphasized that providing solar energy to schools aligns with the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility objectives. He highlighted the importance of lighting educational environments to improve reading habits, enhance academic performance, and boost productivity among students.
“Providing energy to educational environments is more than just giving light; it is about empowering the future,” Mr. Oguntuase stated. “At Izili Nigeria, we are committed to creating meaningful impact in communities through accessible solar energy solutions.”
Mr. Oguntuase further noted that Izili Nigeria currently operates across six African countries and remains dedicated to purpose-driven initiatives that positively affect lives and communities across the continent.
He added that improving access to electricity within schools would not only enhance learning but also encourage students to maximize their potential and develop into responsible future leaders.
The President of JCI Ibadan Elite In her welcome address, expressed optimism about the positive impact the initiative would have on the school community. She encouraged the students to remain courageous and focused as future leaders while stressing the importance of proper lighting in creating a safe and productive educational environment.
The event also featured presentations and speeches from students, who expressed excitement and appreciation for the initiative. Outstanding students were presented with certificates and solar lights in recognition of their excellent performances.
Mrs. Adelasoye Funmilade the principal of the school, recounted the challenges caused by inadequate lighting within the school premises, particularly in the hostel areas. She explained that darkness had previously affected students’ ability to study effectively at night and created safety concerns.
“With the new solar lights, our students are now safer and can comfortably read at night,” she said. “This initiative has truly put smiles on the faces of our students and solved some important challenges within the school.”
She further commended Izili Nigeria and JCI Ibadan Elite for their humanitarian efforts and encouraged other organizations to emulate such impactful initiatives that contribute positively to education and community development.
Supporting the initiative, Miss Jonson Folasade expressed satisfaction with the project, noting its significant impact on students’ ability to study and learn effectively after school hours.
The CSR project reflects Izili Nigeria’s continued commitment to sustainable energy solutions and community empowerment, reinforcing the company’s mission to illuminate lives and support educational advancement across Africa.
