Nigerians have been charged to remain steadfast and patient amid ongoing economic and political reforms, with assurances that the nation is on the path to recovery and sustainable prosperity under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The charge came from former House of Representatives candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ayo Da-Silva, during his formal defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State.
Addressing party faithful and supporters at the well-attended ceremony, Da-Silva acknowledged that the reforms initiated by the Tinubu administration may appear tough, but insisted they are critical to rebuilding the nation’s economy.
“There is light at the end of the tunnel. Nigerians must not lose faith. These are necessary sacrifices that will usher in better days.”
He further underscored the need for continuity in governance, calling on citizens to rally behind the President and support his re-election bid for a second term.
According to him, “the policies of President Tinubu are strategically designed to reposition Nigeria for sustainable growth and development. Consistent leadership remains key to achieving our long-term national goals.”
Reaffirming his allegiance to the ruling party, he declared: “I am standing firmly on the mandate and vision of PBAT for the betterment of all Nigerians.”
The event also featured the formal reception of Da-Silva and his supporters into the APC fold by the Lagos State Secretary of the party, Adeola Jokomba, who represented the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) leader in Amuwo Odofin, Musiliu Obanikoro, alongside the State Chairman, Cornelius Ojelabi.
In a symbolic gesture, Jokomba presented the APC broom and flag to the defectors, signifying their full integration into the party.
Commending Da Silva’s move, Jokomba described it as “a patriotic decision driven by a shared vision for national development,” assuring the new entrants of equal opportunities within the party.
He added, “We encourage you to contribute meaningfully to the growth and success of the APC, not just in Lagos State but across the country.”
Political analysts say Da Silva’s defection is likely to bolster the APC’s grassroots strength in Amuwo Odofin, a strategic hub in Lagos politics.
The development is also viewed as part of a growing wave of political realignments ahead of future electoral contests.
As Nigeria continues its reform-driven trajectory, stakeholders across party lines are increasingly advocating unity, patience, and collective commitment to securing a more prosperous future for the nation.
