ILORIN – Kwara state government yesterday compensated about 203 victims of fire disasters with cash donations worth several millions of naira.
Special Adviser to Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed on Emergency and Relief Matters, Alhaji Musa Abdullahi, who presented the money to the victims in Ilorin, said the gesture was to assist the victims cushion the effect of the loss.
Musa explained that the government was disturbed by the fire disasters, stressing that the only way to cushion the effect of the disasters was to assist the victims in form of cash donation to help them in renovating their various houses burnt during the inferno.
While noting that “the present administration is committed to the well-being of the people and would not relent at making life bearable for the citizenry,” he added that the distribution of the money to the victims was not the first of its kind as the state government had assisted over 1000 people affected by natural disasters last year.
He stressed that the state government would also distribute relief materials to the victims of rainstorms in the state and appealed to the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the donation.
While urging the residents in the state to be careful of any action that may fuel disaster, he assured the people of the state that the state government would continue to meet their needs in the quest to make life worth living.
Responding on behalf of the victims, Alhaji Ayinla Ahmed thanked the state government for the kind gesture saying that the assistance would add value to their socio-economic development.
