…traditional ruler commends initiative as convener, doctors, and facilitators educate elders on healthy ageing
In furtherance of its commitment to promoting the health, dignity, and well-being of senior citizens, RiseAlong Foundation, over the weekend, successfully organised the second edition of its free medical outreach for the aged at the palace of Oba Dr Edward Kolawole Adejoyegbe Adewole, the Osolo of Isolo Kingdom, in Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The outreach, which followed the highly impactful maiden edition held in 2025, brought together medical professionals and health facilitators who provided free medical services, health education, and one-on-one consultations tailored specifically to the needs of the elderly. The programme once again emphasised the importance of sustained community-based healthcare interventions for senior citizens.

Elderly participants benefited from free blood pressure and blood sugar screenings, medical consultations, and interactive health talks addressing common age-related conditions, including chest discomfort, sleep disorders, restlessness, memory challenges, and general wellness concerns.
Speaking at the event, the convener of the programme, Mrs. Damilola Adebowale Abayomi, reaffirmed the Foundation’s vision of consistent advocacy for elderly care. According to her, the initiative was designed to ensure that senior citizens are not forgotten but are actively supported through access to medical knowledge and preventive healthcare.

“Our elders deserve continuous care, respect, and attention. This outreach is our way of reminding them that they are valued, cherished, and not forgotten. We are committed to sustaining this initiative and expanding its reach.” She stated.
One of the facilitators, Dr. Adeyemo, led an insightful session on dementia awareness, educating the elders and caregivers on early symptoms, memory loss, behavioural changes, and the importance of early medical intervention. He stressed the role of families and communities in supporting elderly individuals living with cognitive decline.

Also speaking, Mrs. Busola Owolabi guided the elders on healthy living in old age, highlighting the importance of balanced nutrition, regular light physical activity, adequate rest, and the avoidance of harmful lifestyle habits. She encouraged the seniors to take personal responsibility for their health by adhering to medical advice and healthy routines.
A major highlight of the second edition was the expansion of services to include eye care. A newly added optometrist, Dr. Joke Oyemolade, conducted eye screenings and sensitised participants on common age-related eye conditions such as poor vision, cataracts, and eye strain. She also offered practical tips on eye care and advised elders to seek prompt medical attention for visual challenges.
The traditional ruler, Oba Dr. Edward Kolawole Adejoyegbe Adewole, commended RiseAlong Foundation for sustaining the outreach, describing it as a noble and people-centred initiative. He urged the elderly beneficiaries to apply the medical advice received and encouraged other organisations to emulate such efforts in caring for senior citizens.
“Our elders are the backbone of our society. Initiatives like this are essential to ensuring they live healthier, happier, and more fulfilled lives.” The monarch stated.
The outreach was well-attended and warmly received by the elderly residents of Isolo Kingdom, many of whom expressed deep appreciation to RiseAlong Foundation, the medical team, and the palace for providing free medical care, education, and compassionate engagement.
