I don’t feel the need to jump on every trend – Cynthia Shalom

Content creator and movie producer Cynthia Shalom says Nigerian audiences are craving more than just entertainment—they want content that is honest, relatable, and meaningful. In an interview with Potpourri, Shalom shared her perspective on creating content that resonates.

“I believe Nigerian audiences need more honest and meaningful content—content that is real, not just perfection,” Shalom said. “We already have entertainment and trends, but people are craving stories they can relate to: about love, struggles, identity, growth, and everyday experiences. Content that makes you laugh and feel seen. Creators who focus on authenticity and value will always stand out.”

On her approach to trends and personal branding, Shalom emphasized the importance of staying true to oneself. “Trends are temporary—they come and go—but my values and personal brand are long-term. So, I really don’t feel the need to jump on every trend. I choose what aligns with my message and my voice. Consistency and honesty matter more to me than quick numbers. When you stay true to yourself, you attract an audience that genuinely connects with your content, and that connection lasts beyond algorithms.”

Offering advice to emerging creators, she added: “Focus on purpose, not pressure. You don’t need to shock people to be relevant. Be clear about what you stand for, create with intention, and stay consistent. True storytelling and originality will always outweigh controversy.”
