Pan-African payments company, Cellulant, has appointed Mr. Freddie Oduro as its new Country Manager for Ghana, as part of efforts to deepen its presence in priority markets and accelerate enterprise payments growth.
The appointment is a key step in Cellulant’s broader strategy to strengthen in-country enterprise acquisition and reinforce its position as a preferred payments partner across Africa.
Oduro brings over a decade of commercial and strategic leadership experience spanning the telecommunications and financial services sectors, with expertise in sales, business operations and market expansion. In his new role, he will drive merchant acquisition, strengthen partnerships, oversee collections and payout operations, and ensure strong internal controls and regulatory compliance.
He joins Cellulant from Payaza and previously served as Sales Director at Cellulant, where he played a significant role in expanding the company’s footprint in Ghana.
Cellulant currently powers payments for leading brands in Ghana across sectors such as e-commerce, utilities, oil and gas, and retail, enabling them to offer customers a wide range of secure digital payment options.
Chief Revenue Officer at Cellulant, Mr. Richard Gesimba, said: “We are pleased to welcome Freddie back to the Cellulant family. Ghana remains a critical market for us, with immense potential driven by the rapid adoption of digital payments. As we sharpen our focus on in-country enterprise customers, Freddie’s leadership and industry insight make him the ideal person to steer our Ghana operations.”
The appointment comes at a transformative time for the company. Following a strategic shift between late 2023 and early 2024 aimed at streamlining operations, strengthening customer intimacy and doubling down on enterprise payments, Cellulant achieved profitability in 2024 and continues to build on this momentum. The company now processes close to 4.5 million transactions daily for businesses across Africa.
Speaking on his appointment, Oduro said: “I am honoured to return to Cellulant and lead the Ghana team at such a defining moment. Ghana presents a tremendous opportunity.
“We will ramp up efforts to onboard more local merchants, strengthen our compliance and control frameworks, and introduce innovative solutions such as Tingg Edupay, our automated school fee management solution that validates payments in real time and instantly updates student accounts.”
He added that the company would build on its strong foundation to deliver greater value, reliability and economic impact across the market.
Ghana’s digital payments sector continues to record steady growth, supported by increased mobile money usage and a progressive regulatory environment. Between January and October 2025, the value of mobile money transactions reached about GH¢3.6 trillion, up from GH¢2.37 trillion in the corresponding period of 2024, while registered mobile money accounts exceeded 79 million.
The leadership appointment, according to the company, underscores Cellulant’s commitment to building a resilient, high-performance organisation positioned to play a pivotal role in the next phase of Africa’s digital economy. Looking ahead to 2026, Cellulant plans to further enhance user experience on its Tingg payment platform and expand its footprint across Ghana.
