The Ondo State Chapter of the National Female Students Association of Nigeria (NFSAN) has marked its first 100 days in office with a series of high-impact programmes aimed at strengthening gender advocacy, improving student welfare, and amplifying the voices of female students across tertiary institutions in the state.
Led by Comrade Ikuenomore Precious Adenike, popularly known as Aluta Mama, the administration called Team Apex, rolled out initiatives that cut across health awareness, educational outreach, safety campaigns, and inter-agency collaborations.
In the past three months, NFSAN Ondo has organized activities to commemorate key global observances including World Contraception Day, World Mental Health Day, and the International Day of the Girl Child, where the association conducted outreach programmes in primary schools to inspire and empower young girls.
The group also hosted a widely attended online conversation via Twitter Space focused on promoting self-worth, confidence, rights, and resilience among young women. In partnership with the Nigerian Medical Students Association (NiMSA) TO-WaSH Team, NFSAN executed a sanitation and hygiene awareness campaign targeted at female students across different campuses.
Activities further extended to a Breast Cancer Awareness Week, a virtual sensitization session, and the End Girl-Child Marriage campaign, reinforcing the association’s commitment to combating societal practices that endanger young women.
The administration also launched a monthly conversation series titled Female Issues: “Who’s a Woman? Her Body, Her Blueprint,” which has continued to draw participation from female students statewide.
As part of its efforts to build strategic alliances, NFSAN Ondo paid advocacy visits to key government offices, including the Ondo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (OSOPADEC), the Director of Protocol to the Governor, and the Chief Press Secretary. The group also joined other student organizations on a coordinated visit to the Ondo State Governor.
The association struck additional partnerships with the International Federation of Female Lawyers (FIDA), Ondo State Chapter, and the Women Commission of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), to promote gender rights, legal awareness, and socioeconomic inclusion for female learners.
A major highlight of NFSAN Ondo’s 100-day performance was its active participation in the global 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, in collaboration with the First Lady of Ondo State and the Ministry of Women Affairs.
Throughout the campaign, the association organized sensitization drives, community outreach programmes, and advocacy engagements to raise awareness about abuse prevention and the need to create safer environments for women and girls. The involvement of the First Lady and the Ministry provided additional support that expanded the campaign’s reach campuses and local communities.
NFSAN Ondo also took part in the Ondo Ease Students Festival, further consolidating its visibility in the student community.
As the association marks this milestone, Team Apex says it remains committed to expanding its advocacy footprint, strengthening partnerships, and implementing more development-oriented initiatives for female students in Ondo State.
