Asaba—FOLLOWING the marching order handed down to security agencies in Delta State to investigate and bring to book, those fingered in the reported employment scam in the state, some of the officers, it was gathered are already jittery.

It was gathered that some of the fingered kingpins, have not been reporting for duty regularly, for fear of being picked up for interrogation since Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan gave the order during the May Day celebration in Asaba, last week Tuesday.

Angered by the employment scandal, the governor, while putting on hold the issue of  employment in the state, charged those who allegedly bribed government officials, to come up with evidence to assist in the investigation.

Many Deltans had complained that they were ripped off during employment exercises in the state, citing the employment exercise carried out by the state Civil Service Commission and recruitment exercise at the Asaba International Airport, among others.

It was also gathered that security agents were foot dragging in carrying out the directive of the governor.

State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Charles Muka, told our reporter yesterday: “I have not got anything about that (investigation) yet.”

Aside from the employment racketing, it was gathered that the incidence of ghost workers is worrisome and yet to be properly addressed. Recently, a bank official in Asaba was whisked away to Abuja by Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, officials, over manipulation of Delta State pay roll.

Also the sate Head of Service,  Mr. Okechukwu Ofili, had on November 19, last year,   confirmed the existence of ghost workers on the state payroll, adding that  investigation was already in progress.
