The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, ASHRAE, Nigeria Chapter, has announced its annual lecture and 15 anniversary celebration scheduled to hold from May 13 to 15, 2025.

The event, themed “Building Energy Efficient Design Towards Reducing Consumption From National Grid,” is currently taking place in Lagos.

In a statement, the President of ASHRAE Nigeria Chapter, Engr Adewunmi Michael, disclosed that the ongoing three-day event will centre on promoting sustainable building systems and reducing energy dependence on the national grid.

He noted that the theme underscores the urgent need for energy efficiency in Nigeria’s built environment.

The keynote address will be delivered by Dr Hesham Safwat, a Senior Lecturer at the British University in Egypt and a global training instructor with ASHRAE.

Other dignitaries expected at the event include the President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Engr Margaret Aina Oguntala, who will serve as the Guest of Honour, and Mr Mohammed Bassel Anbari, Managing Director of Inter-Cool Central Air Conditioning and ASHRAE Director and Regional Chair (DRC) for Region-at-Large, who is the Distinguished Guest of Honour.

Chairman of the Planning Committee, Engr Abayomi Akindele, highlighted that ASHRAE has over 50,000 members across 130 countries. He noted that the organisation is dedicated to improving energy efficiency, indoor air quality, refrigeration, and sustainability in the engineering sector.

He added that the 2025 lecture aims to promote strategies toward achieving net-zero emissions in building operations. “ASHRAE, founded in 1894, is a global society advancing human well-being through sustainable technology for the built environment,” Akindele stated.

He further noted that professionals expected at the event include HVAC designers, contractors, and manufacturers; architects; data centre engineers; and facility managers from hospitals, hotels, and the oil and gas sector.
