Sokoto: BUA Cement Manufacturing Company on Tuesday donated drugs worth ₦35 million to 16 communities in Wamakko Local Government Area of Sokoto State as part of its annual corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative.

Speaking during the handover, the Managing Director of BUA Cement, Eng. Yusuf Binji, represented by Assistant Director of Administration and Corporate Services, Alhaji Sada Suleiman, highlighted the company’s commitment to supporting the health needs of its host communities.

He emphasized that BUA enjoys a cordial relationship with the Sokoto State Government and host communities, noting that the donation complements government efforts to improve residents’ health.

“Giving back to communities is of paramount importance to us. We are dedicated and committed to strengthening our mutually beneficial relationship,” Suleiman stated.

He further expressed appreciation for the support and cooperation received from the communities over the years.

The benefiting communities include Bakin Kusu, Gidan Bailu, Kalambaina, Sabon Garin Alu, Gidan Boka, Asare, Wamakko, Gwuiwa, and Beni. Others are Arkilla, Farfaru, Kaurar Kimba, Wajake, Gumbi, and Mobile Police Barracks.

Suleiman announced plans to commission seven solar-powered boreholes in different parts of the state and provide school uniforms to primary school pupils in the host communities.

“We hope these drugs will be used judiciously for the benefit of the people, especially women and children,” he said. He also stressed that the drugs must be distributed free of charge, with a monitoring mechanism in place to ensure compliance.

The Chairman of Wamakko Local Government, Alhaji Umar Ahmed Dundaye, represented by Director of Health Umar Sani Tureta, expressed gratitude for BUA’s interventions.

Similarly, the District Head of Wajake, Alhaji Mailato Gumbi, thanked BUA Cement for its numerous contributions, including improvements in health, road networks, and housing for residents affected by mining activities.

“We will continue to support and appreciate the company’s contributions to our people,” Gumbi affirmed.
