The Bola Tinubu-led government and the 36 state governors have been urged to, as a matter of urgency, deepen the learning of Nigeria’s diverse cultures and languages in our educational system as a means of promoting unity in diversity. 

Briefing newsmen during the Reformed Ogboni Fraternity, ROF, 101 anniversary in Lagos, the overall head of the fraternity, Otunba Francis Meshioye, posited that it would promote the comprehension of our varied cultures and traditions.

He said, “The time is ripe for both federal and state governments to compel and fund the translation of educational materials into ethnic national languages.

“For more than a century, we have been a guiding light; we have continuously advocated for the values of cultural diversity, recognizing that our strength lies in our capacity to embrace our differences and collaborate towards shared goals.

“This year’s theme, ‘Exploring Cultural Beliefs and Knowledge for Love and National Unity,’ captures the very essence of our fraternity. We believe that by exploring the rich fabric of our cultural heritage, we can enhance understanding, respect, and appreciation for one another, thus paving the way for a more united and harmonious Nigeria.

“We represent a microcosm of Nigeria’s diverse cultural landscape. Our membership includes individuals from various ethnic, religious, and social backgrounds, all unified by our common values and aspirations. We exemplify how embracing diversity can be a source of strength and resilience. As part of our commitment to fostering unity, our fraternity calls on governments at all levels to deepen the learning of our diverse cultures and languages as a means of promoting unity in diversity.

“Our vision is to cultivate a global community grounded in trust, love, and truth. We aim to promote quality interpersonal relationships guided by the Golden Rule: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Our mission is to unite individuals of all races, cultivate strong character, combat injustice, and foster kindness and adherence to the laws of our land.

“We recognize the challenges facing our nation. However, we are confident that by upholding the values of brotherhood, love, integrity, trust, and honesty, we can conquer these challenges and forge a brighter future for ourselves and future generations.”
