As 2024 winds down, TikTok has cemented its place as a transformative platform for Nigerian creators, shaping the nation’s cultural, social, and economic narratives.
Beyond trends and viral challenges, TikTok became a hub for cultural celebration, advocacy, community building, and entrepreneurial success, empowering creators and businesses to make a lasting impact.
Advocacy Through Authenticity
In 2024, Nigerian creators on TikTok used the platform to challenge stereotypes, foster change, and amplify marginalized voices.
Charity Ekezie (@charityekezie), named a Global Change Maker, demystified misconceptions about Africa while collaborating with local NGOs to champion digital inclusion. TikTok supported her efforts with a $25,000 donation to Paradigm Initiative, a partner NGO advocating digital rights across Africa.

Shaping Movements and Celebrating Icons
TikTok became a stage for cultural movements, showcasing Nigeria’s talent to global audiences.
Travel content creator Lade Ibikunle (@ladeibikunle) inspired younger audiences with authentic storytelling, while Edna Francis (@ednafrancis_) dominated entertainment reviews. Cinematographer Niyi Fagbemi (@theniyifagbemi) spotlighted Nigeria’s cultural heritage through stunning visuals.
Omiebam Brown (@danbrowntheartist) redefined animation with his TikTok-exclusive series, 3024, while Omoshalewa Ogunsemoyin (@growwithzionn) sparked creativity with her #SchoolLunch community. Habeeb Hamzat (@realpeller), in collaboration with TikTok, hosted Africa’s most-watched live stream, attracting over 389,000 viewers alongside hitmaker Davido.
TikTok and Sports
The platform revolutionized sports engagement in 2024, with a 350% increase in #SportsOnTikTok posts.
During AFCON 2023, TikTok captured Africa’s passion for football with over 393,000 shared posts, showcasing behind-the-scenes moments and fan celebrations. Analysts like StoneAvenue (@stoneavenuee) transitioned from TikTok to television, while Dennis Cofie (@ourafricanfootball) redefined sports storytelling on the platform.
TikTok also became a stage for the Olympics and Paralympics, offering a unique lens into athletes’ journeys, bridging global communities through sport.
Reflections and Aspirations
As 2024 closes, TikTok celebrates its role as a catalyst for advocacy, entrepreneurship, and cultural exchange. Boniswa Sidwaba, Head of Content Operations, Sub-Saharan Africa, noted:
“TikTok continues to redefine how we discover, create, and connect through video. From small businesses to cultural movements, TikTok has driven economic growth, cultural trends, and social impact across Nigeria and West Africa. As we look to 2025, we remain committed to fostering inclusivity and celebrating diverse stories.”
