Kaduna State Post Graduate Students from the University of Abuja, have organised a Youth Leader Clinic ,as part of their study programme, where dignitaries including traditional rulers harped on leadership skills, patriotism and other qualities in raising future leaders.
The programme was held at the Kaduna State University (KASU) on Friday, where the Special Guest of Honour, Deputy Governor of Kaduna state, Dr. Hadiza Balarabe, said the Clinic was a unique opportunity to empower young people on leader knowledge, skills, and patriotism required to guide Nigeria.
Represented by Mallam Rilwan Hassan,a Special Adviser, the Deputy Governor said “this training is a unique opportunity to empower young people on leader knowledge, skills, and patriotism required to guide Nigeria towards a bright future. Youths are the foundation of the progress of any nation.”
“Their energy, creativity, and determination are vital to positive change.
Leadership, however, is not about merely holding positions. It is about responsibility, solving problems, and inspiring others.
We will continue to prioritize education, health care, and social protection to provide the tools children need to succeed.”
“This aligns with the steps necessary in producing with focus and knowledge.
Programmes like compliment government efforts in preparing the youth for leadership. Our young people are always bad ambassadors of Nigeria by pushing the wrong agenda about the country. We have to be patriotic. A true leader carries out his or her responsibilities diligently and as a role model.”
“Leadership at any level comes with responsibility, whether you are a class monitor or a headboy or headgirl in your school. Effective leadership requires carrying everybody along regardless of tribe or religion by ensuring that everyone is treated fairly.”
“In Kaduna state, we are priotising initiatives that promote youth empowerment by strengthening our education system, which includes the provision of skills and vocational training for young people.
I commend the Kaduna indigenes doing their postgraduate studies (PhD. and Msc students) of the University of Abuja for this training.Their commitment to mentoring the next generation is commendable.”
The Emir of Zazzau, Amb. Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, said on the occasion, that taking good decisions, was a cogent quality of a good leader.
“The most important ingredients of leadership are honesty, integrity, fairness, and courage. You can never be a good leader if you choose to stay by the edge.
A leader must be able to take decisive decisions that are beneficial to the people.
Nepotism should be set aside. You have to look at competence above tribe and religion.”
“We have to be patriotic if we want to stand tall in any part of the world. That is what will earn you respect. You have to be assertive and take courageous decisions even if some people are opposed to you so long as the decision is in the best interest of the generality of the people. I think we should be encouraging this kind of lecture in our tertiary institutions so that the youths should be exposed to leadership skills,” the royal father said.
In his remarks,Director Abuja Leadership Centre, University of Abuja, Prof. Philip Afaha, represented by Prof. Joseph Golwa, said “the programme is one of the interventions of TETfund. It is about addressing the problem of leadership deficits in human societies.
The issue of leadership deficit is a problem all over the world. Identifying this and having institution meant to focus on building leadership people.
What our postgraduate students are doing today is to train the young ones on leadership skills,” he said.
