Amb. Adegbile advocates sustainable urban devt, affordable housing at World Urban Forum 12th session

Ambassador Victor Adesewa Adegbile, esteemed CEO of Land Republic Inc. and the Eminent Peace Ambassador of the International Association of World Peace Advocates, is currently participating as a delegate at the 12th World Urban Forum, held by the United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat) in Cairo, Egypt.

This influential gathering brings together government officials, industry leaders, and international advocates to address urgent urban challenges, with a focus on sustainable solutions to issues like affordable housing and climate resilience.

Ambassador Adegbile joins a select group of thought leaders committed to advancing sustainable and inclusive urban development. The World Urban Forum is an essential platform for fostering partnerships to drive transformative change in cities and communities around the globe.

This year’s discussions come at a critical time as Nigeria and other countries face unprecedented climate challenges, including severe flooding that has recently devastated communities and displaced thousands.

As part of his mission, AMB Adegbile is drawing global attention to the climate crisis impacting Nigeria. Recent floods, which have affected multiple states across the nation, underscore the urgent need for climate-resilient infrastructure and sustainable urban planning. He is advocating for increased collaboration between the public and private sectors to develop housing solutions that can withstand extreme weather events.

“Nigeria’s recent floods are a stark reminder of the impact climate change is having on urban areas. We need policies that not only address immediate housing needs but also ensure that our cities are resilient to future climate-related challenges,” he stated.

AMB Adegbile’s insights at the forum focus on creating policies that support investment in affordable and sustainable housing while ensuring regulatory frameworks are favorable for growth. His advocacy for Africa, particularly Nigeria, a country severely affected by housing shortages, is part of his broader commitment to accessible housing across the continent.

He believes that addressing the high costs of land development and incentivizing investments are essential steps toward bridging Nigeria’s housing gap.

“Land is a scarce resource, and we must maximize its use effectively. The recent floods remind us that urban resilience is no longer optional; it’s a necessity. Together, we can create lasting legacies to help our cities withstand the effects of climate change and provide safe, sustainable homes for all,” AMB Adegbile emphasized.

The World Urban Forum has gathered over 400 speakers and a diverse group of delegates from both public and private sectors, with AMB Adegbile representing Nigeria. His participation reflects his commitment to implementing strategic policies and actions that foster affordable, resilient housing solutions not only in Nigeria but across Africa. He is also focused on engaging the youth in this mission, preparing future generations to address the environmental and social challenges of urbanization.
