WARRI—MEDICAL equipment and drugs worth over N500 million ordered by the Delta Doctors in Diaspora (DDD) for displaced victims of the military operation in Gbaramatu Kingdom of Delta State have arrived the country.
The consignment of drugs, which are in four containers, arrived the Lagos Port last week, and were still undergoing clearance.

The President of the Delta Doctors in Diaspora (worldwide), Dr. Isioma Okobah, told journalists that the consignment comprised sophisticated hospital equipment, motorized wheel chairs, hospital beds, and drugs for treating various ailments.

She explained that some of the medications would be used specifically for cushioning the effects of what she called post-war Traumatic Stress Syndrome (TSS)

She disclosed that the drugs would be formally handed over to Governor  Emmanuel Uduaghan as soon as the consignments were cleared for onward presentation to the affected victims of the military operation.

Dr. Okobah assured that the group would continue to identify with the policy objectives of government in the health sector with a view to achieving the millennium development goals in the sector.

She promised to also hand over a multi-million naira community health centre currently under construction at Igbodo to the state government before the end of March 2010 to boos the rural health care programme of Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan’s administration.

Conducting newsmen round the Stephen Okoh Memorial Community Health Centre, Igbodo, Dr. Okobah, who expressed delight with the pace of work, said civil construction work would be concluded in two months, while installation of hospital equipment was billed to commence before December this year.

She said she decided to embark on the project because of her desire to give back to the society following the good things God had done for her and also because of her  passion to improve the health care needs of the rural populace.
