ABUJA – In a significant move to reposition the Nigerian fashion industry, stakeholders have united to boost its economic prospects, aiming for a global takeover.
The initiative brings together designers, models, and industry experts to promote Nigerian fashion internationally.
The 3-day Men’s Fashion Week Nigeria, debuting in Abuja on Friday, is a key part of this effort.
The event will feature over 40 designers from Nigeria and across Africa, including Ghana, Togo, Benin Republic, Cote d’Ivoire, Senegal, and Sweden.
According to Santiago Roberts, Founder of Men’s Fashion Week Nigeria, the platform aims to discover young and emerging designers, providing them with international exposure.
“The 3-day event provides a platform that gradually repositions the industry and serves as a useful tool for commerce and creativity in Nigeria. The show is a unique platform for discovering young and emerging designers and models from across Nigeria to reach the fashion industry internationally,” he explained.
Other partners supporting the event include Vento, Jabi Lake Mall, and Istanbul Restaurant.
Jabi Lake Mall’s Marketing Manager, Abiola Oparinde, and Vento Furniture’s Managing Director, Barrister Sordiq Mahmood, maintained that the collective effort seeks to redefine the future of fashion, integrating Nigerian men’s fashion into the global fashion world, and driving economic growth through commerce and creativity.
They further described the partnership as an effort to celebrate African fashion, emphasizing capacity-building for young Nigerians through master classes and competitions.
