The federal, states, and nongovernmental organizations have been urged to synergies in combating soaring youth unemployment in Nigeria.
Speaking during the ‘Biggest Lagos Job Fair,’ amid the ongoing protest for good governance, the convener of the fair and Managing Director of LD&D Consulting, a leading recruiting firm,
David Osinowo disclosed that there’s an urgent need for the federal and state governments, as well as non-governmental agencies, to “support initiatives such as this by working hand in glove in addressing the menace of youth unemployment.
Osinowo, while expressing concern about the 33 per cent unemployment rate he encountered upon returning to Nigeria after 23 years abroad, said, “I was moved to bridge the gap between job seekers and potential employers, and what most youths fail to understand is that due to the brain drain or ‘japa’ syndrome in the country, organizations like Etransact, Axa Mansard, and the Concept Group, among others, need more manpower.”
He urged the President Tinubu-led government and other organizations to emulate the initiative that would bring job seekers and employers together.
On her part, Anjola Ayodele, a facilitator and human resources professional, commended the initiative, she urged fresh graduates to start their job search immediately without waiting for experience.
Also speaking, Rosemary Odega, Human Resource Partner for the Concept Group, commended the initiative, stating that “the pre-screened candidates presented were of high quality, and it’s aim to reduce unemployment is genuine and impactful.”
