Lekki, Oshodi/Isolo, and Apapa areas of the state currently have the highest crime rates in Lagos, according to the Lagos State Criminal Information System, LCIS.

The system also revealed that Ogun, Oyo, and Lagos indigenes topped the list of crime suspects in the state.

The two revelations were part of the statistics presented by a Lagos High Court judge, Justice Rahman Oshodi, at the Lagos Justice Summit on Tuesday.

According to Justice Oshodi, between 2018 and 2024, a total of 62,117 inmates were enrolled in LCIS, out of which Lekki recorded more crimes, representing 13 percent based on cases reported in court.

Oshodi/Isolo, Apapa, and Ojo areas came in second with 10 percent each. Alimosho represented 9 per cent followed by Agege 8 percent, Ikeja 8 per cent, Mushin 6 per cent, Lagos Island 5 per cent and Yaba 4 per cent.

Epe, Ajeromi, and Victoria Island ranked lowest on the list at 2 per cent each, followed by Ikoyi at 3 per cent.

The statistics presented by Justice Oshodi also showed that in terms of defendants’ state of origin, Ogun State emerges as the leading contributor, accounting for 17 per cent of the total crimes in Lagos State with 5,294 cases. Oyo State follows closely, representing 13 per cent (4,090 cases), while Lagos State ranks third, constituting 11 per cent (3,295 cases). Kano, Ekiti, Ebonyi, and Abia ranked lowest in the category.

The statistics also showed that stealing-related offenses had the highest number of cases in the criminal court, with a record of 21,084 amounting to 44 per cent, followed by a breach of peace of 7,044 amounting to 15 per cent.  Armed robbery, 10 per cent at 4,518, and sexual crimes were the least at 5 per cent with 2,231 cases.

LCIS is a crime data register that captures and stores information about defendants who have been convicted, are awaiting trial, or are undergoing trials in Lagos State.
