Man, 23, docked over theft of blocks, iron doors

The Police on Thursday arraigned one Rasak Kazeem, 23, before an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court for stealing 3,000 cement blocks.

The prosecutor, Isiaka Ajadi,  told the court that the accused and others  at Abere Estate, Osogbo, in October conspired and stole the blocks valued at N300, 000.

Ajadi also stated that the accused and other suspects  stole 70 pieces of  iron security doors valued N6.3 million.

The prosecutor, who told the court that the stolen items were the property of one Mrs Kunbi Immonitie, said the offence was punishable under Section 516 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap 34, Vol. 11,  Laws of Osun 2003.

The accused, however,  pleaded not guilty to the charge while  his counsel,  Mr Amechi Ngwu, urged the court to grant him bail on  liberal terms.

Chief Magistrate Adewumi Makanjuola granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 and two sureties in like sum.

Makanjuola said each of the sureties should swear to an affidavit of means and provide two passport photographs each.

He added that the addresses of the sureties should be verified by the police and adjourned the case to January 13, 2012 for hearing. (NAN)
