Sultan of Sokoto and President-General, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, NSCIA, Alhaji Abubakar Sa’ad, has asked Christians in the country to pray for peace and tranquility.

In a message by the Secretary-General of the council, Dr. Lateef Adegbite to Christians to mark this year’s Christmas and the 2012 New Year, the Sultan said both Christians and Muslims, as members of one united family, should pray for Allah to strengthen the cordial relationship existing between the two faiths.

The Sultan said: “On behalf of the Nigerian Muslims, I extend to you, the Nigerian Christian community, our best wishes on the occasion of Christmas 2011 and the forthcoming New Year, 2012.

“May the joyous season usher in happiness and prosperity to all Christians. May our country also enjoy stability, security and peace, now, in the coming year and beyond.

“May Allah strengthen the co-operation and collaboration between our two bodies for our mutual benefits and to the glory of God and Nigeria.”

He promised that Muslims in Nigeria and the council will continue to extend its respect to the Christian community.
