5,000 displaced by Tiv, Fulani clash

Abuja—National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, says more than 5,000 people have been displaced following the crisis that erupted between Tiv farmers and the Fulani in Doma and Keana local government areas of Nasarawa State.

The agency made this known, yesterday, in a statement by Mr. Audu Yohanna, Zonal Information Officer, North-Central.

Alhaji Aliyu Danjuma, NEMA’s North-Central Zonal Coordinator, representing the agency’s Director-General, Mr. Muhammad Sanni-Sidi, conducted a team round the affected communities.

The internally-displaced persons were seen in their thousands in Doma Central Primary School and the Roman Catholic Mission School, Kadarko, in Giza Development Area of Keana Local Government Area.

The statement said in Doma Local Government Area, there were 2,198 internally-displaced persons, while there were 3,300 in Keana Local Government Area.

It quoted the displaced persons as appealing to NEMA to provide them with security, food and medical facilities, saying there were imminent signs of malaria outbreak in the two camps.

It named the affected communities as Audori, Akpata, Rukubi, Akpanaja, Agyema, Idadu, Gidanrai, Ankome and Agimaka.
