Ex-internationals not a curse to football – Hamilton

By KATE OBODO
There have been growing doubts among Nigerians in the ability of ex-internationals to handle the national teams, especially the Super Eagles after Samson Siasia’s failure to qualify the country for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.

They believe having another ex-international to handle the Eagles might cause more harm than good to Nigeria’s football.

But former Super Falcons coach Paul Hamilton has risen in strong defence of Nigerian ex-internationals insisting that they were a blessing, rather than a curse to Nigerian football .

Hamilton, dismissed the insinuation that ex-internationals have failed but were only victims of a poor structural process.

“What I can say is that Nigeria’s football is passing through a trial phase and I believe there will be good time in the nearest future. That there are no results does not mean they are not good or they are a curse. They are not a curse but a blessing to Nigeria’s football. The problem has been the bad structure we have in the country”.
