Despite the appointment of Stephen Keshi as replacement for sacked Super Eagles coach, Samson Siasia, Brigadier General Gregory Adebiyi has again restated his view that the country needs a foreign technical adviser to supervise the new handler.
“Whoever they appoint at the end of the day, Nigeria still needs a foreign technical adviser to supervise him. That has become imperative because foreigners handle such jobs better and with clear-cut objectives and they are more current about developments in the game and are more decisive when confronted with very serious issues,” he said.
Adebiyi, a former board-member of the NFA and chairman of it’s technical committee had last week called on Nigeria Football Federation, NFF to advertise all positions it wants to fill for those duly qualified to apply so it would enable the board select the right candidates from a bank of qualified hands.
“And I still feel that the position of a physical trainer is key in the teams and should be one position that should attract top priority during selection and appointment of personnel for the national teams.”
“Part of the problems I have noticed in our national teams these days is the physical deficiency of the teams and that’s a regrettable void. Therefore, we have to go back to past practice when the NFA used the services of physical trainers who usually were seconded to the NSC from any one of the Nigerian Armed forces. Our teams fared better then.
NFF has to embrace such practice once more to build our national teams back to the invincible forms they had in the past,” said the former Nigerian Army and Armed Forces director of Sports and Physical Education.
