OSHOGBO- Striking lecturers in Osun tertiary institutions on Monday vowed to continue their strike in spite of government’s approval of  75 per cent  of their demands.

Mr Olubisi Ige, the Public Relations Officer, Council of Academic Staff Unions in Osun-Owned Tertiary Institutions, CASUOSTI, said this while reacting to government’s offer.

The affected institutions are the Osun State Polytechnic Iree, Osun State College of Technology, Esa-Oke, and  Osun State Colleges of  Education at Ila-Orangun and Ilesa.

It will be recalled that Mr Sunday Akere, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, on Friday said  government had approved 75 per cent of  their demands and urged the  lecturers to call off the strike.

But Ige  said other states had since paid the benefits to their workers, adding that  the state government must also do the same.

The demands of the union include seven per cent peculiar academic allowance and the salary structure known as CONTISS 2007.

Others are CONPOCASS 2009, a retirement age of 65 years as approved by the Federal Government and the NBTE as well as improvement in staff welfare.

Also speaking, Mr Deji Alabi, the Secretary of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Osun State Polytechnic, Iree chapter, said government had no reason not to meet the lecturers’ demands.

Alabi said the affected workers would pursue their demands until the state government deemed it fit to pay the workers in full.
