Sunshine Stars FC of Akure left Lagos yesterday evening for Tunis, where they will battle Tunisian side, Club Africain in the second leg of the CAF Confederation cup semi-final on Saturday.

Sunshine Stars are 1-0 down from the first leg in Ijebu-Ode and they need a win to put back on track, their ambition to conquer the continent. This is something, Ondo State football agency director, Mike Idoko believe they can achieve.

“We have prepared very well for the tie. All I can say is that we will not let Nigeria down.

“They players are ready and are in good frame of mind,” said Idoko.

He added that Sunshine Stars will fight to end the string of losses suffered by Nigeria football teams in international and club football. Sunshine stars has had a fairy tale run in this their continental debut a win will see them progress into the final of the competition on a first try.

The game would be played behind close doors, however, Idoko stated that Sunshine was not banking on that to give them victory.

“Playing behind close doors, will have little effect on us. This is because we are ready to face them even with their fans. We have played in a 80,000 capacity stadium before, so we are just going there to do every thing possible to turn the tie around in our favour,” said Idoko as the team prepared to jet out.

After their Nigeria Premier League game against Dolphins, Sunshine moved to Lagos and trained at the Yaba College of Technology to enable the team get used to grass.

“In Tunis we are going to play on grass. This was why it was necessary to have some days of training at Yabatech.”

Sunshine Stars can draw inspiration from the 3-2 win over Dolphins last weekend. They are currently topping the Nigeria league with three points clear of closest rival Dolphins. They can also bank on their top scorer Ibrahim Ajani to nick in the goals, while they also keep a clean sheet in the game.
