As part of Federal Government’s transformational agenda of the aviation industry, the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, NAMA, has said communication equipment for the new Aminu Kano Airport Tower were now on site and ready for immediate installation to boost air safety.

NAMA’s Managing Director, Engineer Nnamadi Udoh, said the completion of the tower last week, after six years, would raise the safety profile of the nation’s airspace as the facility would now give room for the installation of the northern sector of the agency’s N400million Total VHF Radio project and Safe Tower project.

The VHF radio project, according to him, will provide an extended network of communication capabilities for air traffic controllers and pilot air-to-ground and ground-to-ground communication across the Nigerian airspace.

He said communication challenges at some stations would be eradicated once the installation  was completed.

Udoh explained further that installation of these facilities would enable the agency to commence Area Radar Control, disclosing that some controllers were already being trained for its successful take off.

Engineer Udoh, speaking at the 40th Annual General Meeting of the Air Traffic Controllers held in Owerri, Imo State at the weekend, said the new management under his leadership, would ensure that all the safety critical equipment and projects of the agency were given proper attention to sustain the quality of air traffic services in the country.
